Matlock is the furthest we regularly travel from our Chesterfield base, out into the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District. Local to Matlock
Matlock's position in a steep-sided section of the Derwent valley means a lot of the town's older stone cottages and villas are built into the hillside, which creates plumbing challenges you don't see on flatter ground — awkward pipe runs, properties where the boiler and bathroom are on completely different levels, and drainage that has to work against gravity in ways a standard layout doesn't. The town's Victorian hydro heritage also left behind a number of large stone properties built for a different era of heating entirely, often now running oversized or outdated systems that are due a proper right-sized replacement. Newer housing on the flatter ground towards Matlock Bath and Cromford is far more straightforward, but the older hillside stock is where most of our Matlock call-outs come from.
